The St. Tammany Sheriff’s Sex Offender Registry Division is a recipient of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The $129,202 grant will be funded through the Support for Adam Walsh Act Implementation Grant Program. The money will allow the agency to upgrade technology and hire an additional person to help handle the increasing workload of the division. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Sex Offender Registry Division currently consist of two compliance deputies and one field deputy. Currently the division manages and oversees 453 registered sex offenders who live in St. Tammany, 30 who reside elsewhere but are employed in St. Tammany and an additional 133 who are currently incarcerated. The state requires that all sex offenders that either live, work or attend school within the parish to be registered. The division also maintains records on both sex offenders that have relocated from St. Tammany to other areas, as well as sex offenders that relocate to the area.
