Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson says his department understands the importance of having body cameras and his officers should have the new body camera system in about 4-6 weeks. Layrisson says the body camera system will help to improve their relationship with citizens by providing them with confidence, accountability, and promoting transparency. He says body cameras are also a good tool to use in improving officer performance by identifying and correcting problems, offering an impartial witness, accurately documenting events, and aiding in evidence collection. Chief Layrisson thanks the City Council members for their approval on the funding for the new equipment.
