An area of low pressure in the northwestern Caribbean has a 50 percent chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm over the next five days. A National Hurricane Center forecaster says environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for some development thereafter, and a tropical depression could form late this week or this weekend while the system moves slowly west-northwestward. There is virtually no chance of development in the next couple of days, but the hurricane center puts its chances of development in three to five days at 50 percent.
