The St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1, #7, DOTD, Louisiana State Police and other agencies responded to the scene of an overturned 18-wheeler with a possible chemical spill yesterday. Traffic was snarled around I-59 southbound between Pearl River and the Mississippi state line once a tractor-trailer went off the roadway. Emergency officials feared the trailer was leaking some type of hazardous material or corrosive. Drivers were asked to avoid I-59 south near mile marker 11. Officials were able to get the truck out of the trees and transfer its load to another trailer. The driver was not injured.
