Wesley Ray Elementary in Angie, an elementary school in Washington Parish, will close for two weeks in response to what’s being called a “potential” coronavirus exposure. The parents of the 256 students were notified by email that the shutdown done in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Health. Washington Parish Superintendent Frances Varnado says the school system learned Friday about the possible exposure. She would not disclose whether any teachers or students had tested positive for COVID-19.
A statement from the superintendent said the school will reopen Sept. 14. Students and families are encouraged to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms. For now, teachers are reaching out to students regarding distance learning and school meals.
