On Monday, August 31, before 11:00 am, Troopers from Troop L responded to a fatal crash on southbound I-55 south of US Hwy 51. The crash claimed the life of 88-year-old Lloyd O. Tycer of Independence. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Tycer was southbound on I-55 in a 2005 Lincoln Towncar when he began to slow due to congestion in front of him. A 2005 GMC 2500 Sierra driven by 46-year-old Adam E. Calcote was southbound behind Tycer’s vehicle and, for reasons still under investigation, did not slow down due to the congested traffic. The GMC Sierra ran into the rear of the Lincoln Towncar. The Lincoln Towncar was pushed forward where it impacted a 2008 Nissan Altima. The Altima was pushed forward into a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. Tycer sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The occupants of all the involved vehicles were properly restrained and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood or breath samples were collected from all drivers for scientific analysis. Calcote was cited for Careless Operation. The crash investigation is on-going and any further charges will be forwarded to the Tangipahoa District Attorney’s office for review.
