Governor John Bel Edwards said during a news conference yesterday that the state has made progress in its battle with the novel coronavirus but cautioned the fight was far from over. Edwards said Louisiana saw a drop in hospitalizations with 73 COVID-19 patients leaving the hospital. The governor also said the number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 was just over 1,000 as compared to 1,600 in the middle of July. He also announced that as of Aug. 14, the state’s positivity rate for COVID-19 had dropped to 8.7%. However, Edwards said he is concerned as to whether cases will continue to decrease citing there are now more people moving around the state than at the beginning of the pandemic.
