Health officials say they are fearful of clusters of COVID19 cases among students and teachers with some students restarting in-person learning across the state.
Dr. Joseph Kanter with Louisiana Department of Health said if we want students to be able to have the best in-person learning experience, we must continue to slow down the community spread of COVID19. Kanter said even with guidelines in place, if a child or teacher contracts the virus outside of school then brings it back on campus, that could result in a whole class or even a school temporarily being closed. He said the department reported more than 2,000 COVID19 cases concentrated in these so called clusters throughout the state. Officials fear that number will only get higher in the coming weeks.
