Some people have raised concerns over the effectiveness of the state’s contact tracing efforts, saying too much time is passing between positive results and notification of individuals who might have gotten infected. Dr. Joseph Kanter, with the Louisiana Department of Health, said on average, patients are contacted within 36 hours. He blamed, in some cases, mistakes with phone numbers and other human error for longer wait times. He added that patients can call the state if they are worried about how long they have been waiting. The number is 877-766-2130. Louisiana currently employs about 800 contact tracers.
