A 10-year-old girl died after she was stabbed in the neck at her Slidell-area residence. St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has identified the child as Ariel Scott. Shortly after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Channel Bend in Slidell. When deputies arrived, family members informed them the child had been injured and was unresponsive. Deputies rendered aide until emergency medical personnel arrived, then, the child was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Preston has ruled the cause of death was sharp trauma to her neck and called it a homicide. Preston explained that “homicide” refers to a manner of death in which one person dies due to the actions of another. It is distinct from “murder,” which is a criminal charge. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
