Louisiana health officials say 41 more people were admitted to hospitals from Sunday to Monday with COVID-19, representing the biggest single day jump in two months. The Louisiana Department of Health also reported 11 more coronavirus deaths Monday after just one reported Sunday. The number of cases increased by 461. 3,004 deaths have occurred and more than 39,000 presumed recovered.
Based on what we now know, those at high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19 are people aged 65 years and older, people who live in a nursing home, people of all ages with underlying medical conditions, people who have serious heart conditions and people who are immunocompromised. Many conditions can cause a person to be immunocompromised, including cancer treatment, smoking, bone marrow or organ transplantation, immune deficiencies and more. Also at risk are people with severe obesity, people with diabetes, people with chronic kidney disease and people with liver disease.
