The latest numbers from the Louisiana Department of Health showed 36,504 positive results. That is 1,188 newly reported cases but of those cases, 682 or 62% are from labs that are reporting for the first time, with cases stretching as far back as late March. 2,506 people in the state have died from the virus. 884 COVID patients in hospitals and 107 of those patients require ventilators. 26,249 people have presumed to have recovered, as of May 16th. On the Northshore St Tammany has 1,599 cases and 154 deaths. Tangipahoa is listing 767 cases and 31 deaths from the virus. Livingston has 363 cases and 26 deaths. In Washington there are 383 reported cases and 36 deaths. The CDC believes at this time that symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 after exposure.
