Hammond Police Department have made one arrest and identified another suspect in the pursuit incident that left two State Troopers injured. 26 YO Taylor Cox of Hammond was arrested on charges related to the pursuit.
As of last night, HPD was looking for 18 YO Nathan Anding, of Holden. The incident began on Wednesday morning when a Hammond Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The officer observed the occupants throwing things out the vehicle on both sides, indicating at least two occupants. Multiple HPD officers joined the pursuit and additional agencies joined the effort.
Troopers from Troop L deployed a tire deflation device to disable the suspect’s vehicle on Wardline Road. While troopers were retrieving the device, they were struck by a HPD unit involved in the pursuit. Both troopers were transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. One trooper was treated and released. Trooper George Baker was listed in critical condition as of last night.
After the tires were disabled, the suspect’s vehicle crashed on Wardline Road, and the suspects fled the scene on foot. The suspects were in a gray, 2007 Infinity SUV.
